I’ve worked with hundreds of college students who’ve faced challenges like anxiety, depression, ADHD, burnout, trauma, and major life transitions. Many have already tried counseling, medications, or coping strategies, but still feel stuck and want something more thoughtful, practical, and personalized. My name is Julie Bass, I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider (PMH-C). I have worked in mental health for over 10 years and offer a blend of medication management and integrative strategies that go beyond quick fixes. My practice is intentionally small so I can provide personalized care — not rushed diagnoses or one-size-fits-all treatment plans. I take the time to really understand your story, explore the root causes of your symptoms, and help you find sustainable ways forward. I especially enjoy working with college students navigating identity, independence, and transitions, as well as international students, who often carry the added stress of being far from home, balancing cultural expectations, and adapting to a new environment. I also know how busy student schedules can be, so I offer early morning, evening, and weekend appointments to make care more accessible. Massachusetts Mind Center is a small boutique mental health practice in Back Bay offering a range of mental health and medical services: Medication management, individual outpatient therapy, group therapy, medical marijuana prescriptions, genetic testing, professional events, supervision, and more. We have capacity to see individuals immediately following intake & scheduling for both tele-health and from 1/30 on in-person sessions. We accept BCBS and other commercial insurances as well.
Seeking therapy and finding the right therapist can be difficult and daunting. My initial goal when meeting with new clients is to create a comfortable and safe environment. Wherever you are in your pursuit of receiving help is where I accept you and begin our work together. Wherever you are is a good place to start. The practice I opened with close colleagues is called Elysium Counseling LLC. “Elysium” by definition is a place of ideal happiness or a peaceful state of mind. While that may feel unrealistic to obtain by some, we help our clients grow to believe they can achieve just that. I want my clients to know that change is possible, that they have unique skills and abilities, and are worthy and capable of creating a life they want to live. Part of that process invites clients to be challenged in new ways, even if it’s hard. Alison B. Newman is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Lexington, Massachusetts. Her practice focuses on academic issues, college mental health, life transitions, personal and professional growth, and relationships. She enjoys working with students as they navigate forming new relationships and the many challenges of being away from home (sometimes for the first time). She also sees many adults through formative life transitions, including graduation, marriage, pregnancy & parenting, and career changes. Alison provides skill-based support to help young adults manage anxiety around finding their social niche and discover an inner sense of belonging and self-worth. She has deep expertise in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, an evidence-based treatment approach that equips clients with the behavioral skills to cope with uncertainty, regulate mood, and engage more effectively with others in the present moment. Alison received her Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) from Princeton University and her Masters in Social Work from Boston College in Clinical Mental Health. Her extensive experience includes work at McLean Hospital as well as college counseling services at Wellesley College and Boston College. In addition to her clinical work, Alison has received training in yoga for emotional health. She utilizes a team-based approach, providing referrals for nutritional support and medication management as necessary. Alison works closely with clients to reduce stress in meaningful ways, tailoring the course of treatment to help each client find a renewed sense of peace and joy. Alison is also a part-time faculty member and lecturer at Boston College.
I am a licensed educational psychologist and psychotherapist. There are times in life when you may struggle with social-emotional issues that are overwhelming. Navigating the myriad of social stressors frequently requires learning new skill sets, which at times may include further development of your Emotional Intelligence (EQ). I offer family therapy, have extended success connecting with male and female adolescence whose behaviors have been labeled oppositional or explosive, and work with parents/families who struggle with how to relate and communicate with their teenager and each other. Men's Issues/male and female adolescent populations and families work through challenges they have in expressing emotion, managing anger, and interpersonal communication. I am an LICSW who thoroughly enjoyed 42 plus years of clinical experience working as a Clinical Services Executive in a psychiatric hospital. My oversight responsibilities for inpatient and outpatient care included providing direct service to patients, supervising clinical staff, and developing therapeutic programming. I specialize in providing DBT, couples therapy, treatment for anxiety, depression, and trauma; working with young adults adapting to the multiple challenges of life and with people dealing with family members who are having mental health issues. I am convinced that people are innately capable of change and adaptation, and I seek to support them in developing new insights and perspectives about their circumstances so that they can see new possibilities for themselves and take positive action for self-advancement. I find it extremely gratifying to see clients make progress in their lives. In my private practice, I work with high school, college, and graduate/professional students. I enjoy working with high-achieving students of all genders, racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. I am also pleased to see those those who strive to achieve but are facing barriers to academic or personal success. This includes students who are on leave from college for medical, personal, or financial reasons. Because I also consult to schools and colleges, I am very effective at helping students and families navigate educational institutions.
My approach to psychotherapy is primarily relational and psychodynamic, guided by the concept that healing and change happen in relationship.
