I have personally experienced medical issues with my own children, childhood trauma, and sports related injuries. I have also personally dealt with anxiety and depression. I've had my own therapy journey, so understand how you feel throughout the process. We will explore past and current experiences you've had, as well as options that will be beneficial for you. I have years of experience with clients with disabilities, autism, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I was one of the lead therapists assisting survivors of the Parkland School shooting. I strive for a comfortable, open environment where you can discuss any issue freely. We work together as a team on this journey!
College can be really hard — it definitely was for me. I struggled with the transition, felt lost in who I was, and went through a lot: relationship issues, self-esteem stuff, grief, even addiction. That’s part of what brought me to therapy, and eventually to becoming a therapist myself. Now, I work with students who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or unsure of who they are. I know how lonely it can feel when things get heavy — and I also know that healing is possible. My approach is warm, honest, and down-to-earth. I won’t give you generic advice or try to “fix” you — instead, we’ll explore what’s going on in a way that feels real, safe, and supportive. I specialize in trauma, identity, grief, anxiety, and neurodivergence. I’m also LGBTQ+ affirming and really care about creating space for all parts of who you are. Therapy doesn’t have to be scary. You don’t have to have it all figured out. We can start wherever you are.

Hi! My name is Matt and I am a limited licensed professional counselor. I have been working as a counselor since 2022 and have been working in the mental health field since 2016. My first counseling job was at Central Michigan University and I worked with clients with a variety of concerns such as life adjustments, anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, trauma, etc. Before anything else, I'd first try to get to know you, your circumstances, your presenting problem, and your strengths before we focus on how we can make the best use of our time together, whether that be space to process, thinking of solutions, or something else. If we don't happen to be a match, that's ok! I work with a team of other mental health professionals who may be available to take on new clients as well.

I hold a graduate degree in Counseling from Michigan State University and have experience working with college students and adults facing concerns such as anger management, stress, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, multicultural challenges, and childhood trauma. I believe healing happens best in a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment, where you can explore your experiences at your own pace. In therapy, I focus on truly understanding your story. Together, we will explore what’s happening within you, increase self-awareness, and develop practical coping skills tailored to your needs. Our work will be collaborative and goal-oriented, helping you feel more confident, emotionally balanced, fulfilled, and alive in your daily life. Getting started can be overwhelming. My goal is to help you feel as comfortable as possible so we can go at your pace. I specialize in working with clients with anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and addiction. Many of my clients have tried to cope with difficult life changes by pushing their feelings away or finding short-term coping mechanisms that serve as a distraction. My role is to help people listen to and manage their emotions without feeling overwhelmed or ruled by them. Being personally in recovery from alcohol helps me understand and empathize with what you’re going through because I’ve probably been there too. I like to break down clinical approaches to collaboratively determine the best fit for each person’s unique goals. I incorporate elements of neurobiology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and schema work to help people better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their lives. If you're not sure what you're looking for yet, that's okay! Feel free to reach out to set up an introductory phone call to see if we're a good fit.
I consider it a privilege to help people process their experiences, empathize with them in their pain, work to improve their relationships and help them make positive changes. I am a generalist in training (worked with couples, adolescents and adults), but specialized in Emotion Focused Couples therapy, EMDR (evidenced based trauma therapy), Christian psychology and cross cultural workers (missionaries, pastors, and missionary kids/adults). I personally love more depth oriented, emotion-focused work, but I will help you decide what approach works best for you! Having grown up overseas, I am part of the Third Culture Kid tribe. For the past four years, I have worked with people in cross-cultural ministry. I am trained in Emotion-focused therapy which has been seen as the most effective approach for TCK's. I am also trained in EMDR for trauma and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy for relationships in distress. If you are looking to gain insight, sleep better, trust yourself more and have better success in ALL your relationships including the relationship with God and yourself, now is the time to start! Please email or call me to talk about what it looks like to start.
I’m excited to work with college students during this unique part of their journey in life. I specialize in trauma, drug abuse, and of course mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety. So feel free to call/text/e-mail me today to answer any questions you may have about therapy.
Life can be difficult. With the right tools and some effort, it does not have to be. My hope is to help you with your goals. Whether that is to feel better (less depressed, anxious or angry), improve your relationships (with a spouse, parent, child, etc.), change your behaviors (substance use, self harm, avoidance), or anything else that is important to you, I'd love the opportunity to work with you. I enjoy working with a many different presenting problems. My passions include working with teens/adults, men's issues (especially navigating work and/or family life), post-partum Dads, athletes and substance use/co-occurring disorders. Therapy isn't one-size fits all. I utilize many forms of therapy depending on what my client may need. These typically include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused therapy and motivational interviewing. Each client is unique and I find it important to adjust treatment strategies to the needs of each client. Should you allow me to be a help to you, you can always expect empathy and compassion. But you can also expect me to be direct, push you to challenge your perspective, and inject a bit of humor into the therapy process. I welcome you to reach out if you think I could be the right fit for you.
