I use an integrative model primarily developed from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, with post-modern existentialism. What that means is we focus on what you're doing and I help you decide what the meaning of things are. Meaning of life stuff, or just the meaning of an event. My background is extensive and diverse, so I believe I can offer a great deal of perspective and help you figure out whatever it is that seems to be holding you up.

Some clients enter therapy to learn specific skills and practices to increase their well-being, while others simply want an empathetic listener to help them work through life’s challenges. As a therapist, I strive to create a warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment for clients to explore the complexities of their lives and to feel heard and understood. I particularly enjoy working with older adolescents and young adults on issues surrounding anxiety, OCD, phobias, life transitions, depression, and traumatic experiences. I understand that frequently our emotions and past experiences can keep us from living the lives that we hoped for, and I strive to help clients move forward to live in line with their values.

My primary goal as a counselor is to create an open and non-judgmental space in which clients can express their thoughts and feelings freely. None of us are without our struggles, and I find it beneficial for each of us to have a space where we can explore these struggles reflectively and creatively. I aspire to gain a holistic understanding of my clients, their life experiences, and their issues, so that we might collectively explore opportunities for growth through evidence-based practice. I find great value in person-centered, cognitive behavioral, acceptance & commitment, and existential therapies. However, perhaps the greatest determinant of success is a relationship built upon mutual trust and understanding between counselor and client. I believe that sound counseling practice is an active, and at times difficult, process for the client. However, take comfort in the fact that it is my mission as a counselor to walk with you through trial and tribulation. I would be honored to join you on your journey.

You are at your threshold and something has to give. Maybe you have been struggling for years, or maybe you have new stress that feels unmanageable. You've tried changing your diet, journaling, talking it out, and nothing seems to change. It may seem as though things will never be different in your life or your relationships. But, after years of experience working with others just like you, here is the truth: lasting change is possible. My clients come to me because they want a shift and are seeking support as they turn onto a new path. Together, we will explore your thoughts and feelings, using a goal-oriented, holistic approach. Imagine what it would feel like to finally be able to let go of the constant worrying, suspicion, anger, and resentment. To feel like you can set boundaries and have the energy to participate in your life and experience joy again. You would be a better partner, friend, and parent, someone who is capable of saying "no" clearly, or "yes" wholeheartedly. I am committed to helping you unravel old wounds as you strengthen and create a new direction in your life and relationships. My goal is to create a warm, non-judgmental and safe space for self-reflection, recovery, and personal growth.

I welcome individuals from all backgrounds. I prioritize working with any and all women, girls, members of the Queer and Trans communities, and expecting parents, ages 15+. As a cisgender white woman I am aware of the privileges I hold and I honor the perspectives, backgrounds, and lived experiences of my clients. I believe in a collaborative therapeutic process and therefore will ask for your input in goal-setting and treatment planning conversations. I will at times offer clinical guidance, but not before hearing what it is you are seeking and hoping to gain from your therapy experience. My work is trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based, aimed at co-creating strong therapeutic rapport. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Mindfulness and Grounding, and Therapeutic Art. Through each of these interventions, I aim to strengthen and empower your voice and provide a safe space to be who you are, without judgment and without expectation.

Life presents each of us with an ever-evolving host of changes and transitions. This sense of change and transition can be even more pronounced for people encountering new opportunities along with new challenges. I work to support people in their processes of change, growth, exploration, and self-understanding, using an approach to therapy that is flexible, empathetic, and collaborative. My aim is to provide structure, consistency, and compassion that helps clients make decisions about how to proceed in different areas of life. This approach embraces complexity, allowing clients the freedom to explore while still maintaining a focus on their treatment goals. Whether someone seeks therapy for anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, stronger emotion regulation, coping skills, or anything else, I take an approach tailored specifically to each client's needs.

Therapy is worth it and so are you! While life can be amazing, there is no doubt at times we will experience hardships. However, you do not have to navigate these struggles by yourself. By emphasizing collaboration, resiliency, optimism, and empowerment, I aim to equip my clients with the tools and resources needed to assist them in revamping and creating the life they are striving to live. I have been a practicing licensed clinical social worker for over 30 years in the Triangle area. I currently have space for a few new clients. I have a very open-minded, psychodynamic approach to therapy and definitely don't have a "one size fits all" approach. Every one I see in my practice is treated as a unique individual with their own needs. I do use CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), mindfulness, solution focused brief therapy and a family systems approach as a foundation point, but customize what works best depending on what feels right for you. I have two wonderful furry "co-therapists" who are often available to sit at your feet during sessions if we meet in person. I also offer tele therapy which is confidential, convenient and easier for many students. I have years of experience working with college aged students around adjustment and relationship issues, handling the stress of academics, anxiety, ADHD and life transitions. Although I am licensed to treat children, adolescents and adults I have enjoyed working with college and graduate students more than any other age group. I work 3 days per week and am happy to speak with you for a brief (free) phone consultation to see if my practice is a good fit for you!
