I'm Lex E Santí. Therapist. Writer. Professional overthinker. If you’ve ever tried to “just relax” and immediately thought of seventeen reasons why that’s impossible — you’re my kind of person. I work with people sorting through relationships, anxiety, creative blocks, and the general weirdness of being human. My sessions mix curiosity, structure, and the occasional well-timed eye roll at life’s absurdities. Before private practice, I spent years in crisis intervention and higher ed mental health. Now, I help clients rewrite their stories — with more agency, more humor, and fewer plot holes. Licensed in NY and DE. Individual and group sessions available.

College can be an amazing time full of new experiences, but let’s be real—it can also feel stressful and overwhelming. I love working with young adults who are figuring out the ups and downs of campus life. Whether you're dealing with roommate drama, trying to balance work and fun, or adjusting to being more independent, sometimes it helps to talk to someone who gets it and can help you work through the tough stuff. If this sounds like something you’d find helpful, feel free to reach out—I’d love to connect and support you through this exciting but challenging time.

Finding the right therapist is an important and thoughtful process. You want to find someone who ‘gets’ you, and who you can trust to be straightforward with you about your role in problems, and what steps you need to take. You want a person with solid credentials and experience, yet who is open, willing to listen, and who will consider a variety of treatment options with you. Clients have told me they appreciate my straightforwardness and compassion. I would characterize myself as contemplative and thoughtful, yet I am not the kind of therapist who will leave you ‘on the couch’ while I utter “mm-hmm”. I like to balance insight with concrete information and skills you can use to work between sessions. My goal is to foster respectful and collaborative partnerships with clients who are motivated to make changes in their lives. Being a psychologist has special meaning to me, and I care deeply about my work. I hope this offers helpful information as you search for your therapist, and would welcome you to contact me for a consultation.

We offer trauma-focused strengths-based therapy to individuals, caregivers, and families. When working with children, families will be engaged in play therapy sessions to encourage bonding, communication, and growth. With adolescents and adults, using CBT techniques, we will focus on replacing negative thinking with positive self-talk and adapting positive coping mechanisms. Through Somatic Experiencing techniques, we can tap into physical and emotional symptoms associated with trauma -- locked into the body -- and guide you into identifying and utilizing the innate healing capacity in your body.

YOU’RE NOT LIVING THE LIFE YOU WANT TO BE LIVING. You’re unhappy, but you’re not sure why. At times, we can feel lost, numb, and disconnected from ourselves. There can be many reasons for this, and through our work together, we will understand what these are and how to reconnect, to live a vibrant, fully embodied life. Perhaps, no matter how many times you talk about past trauma, it still feels raw. Something isn’t healing. SOME PART STILL FEELS STUCK. It’s been my experience that trauma lives in the body, as well as the mind, and when we treat only the thoughts or the pictures in our heads, the deepest part of what is hurt sometimes isn’t heard. I specialize in the treatment of trauma, particularly childhood sexual abuse, in techniques that reach the whole self, such as EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), and will work together to heal the past so that you can live fully in the present as a whole and empowered self. HAVING A NEW BABY can bring with it the highest highs and the lowest lows. It is normal to feel overwhelmed, and scared, and that you’re doing it wrong. Parenthood is a time of growth, but also an adjustment period, maybe the biggest we have ever faced! AS A MOTHER MYSELF, I understand this journey, and through my past work and training in perinatal loss and mood disorders, am here to help you navigate this time, and feel stronger as a result. Any transition into a new time of life, be it as a college student, first-time parent, or navigating midlife, there is the potential for creativity and growth, but uncertainty, anxiety, and fear as well. I’M HERE TO HELP YOU THROUGH THESE TIMES OF CHANGE. My approach is collaborative, creative, and individualized. Just as every fingerprint and person is unique, it’s my belief that every therapy should be as well.

Those who seek my services are often looking to quiet their anxious minds, set boundaries in their relationships, and feel more confident on their life path. Trying to balance personal relationships with career/school, all while trying to convince everyone that you're in control and that you know what you're doing is exhausting. Life doesn't have to feel this hard! Our work together will involve identifying and removing barriers to your ideal life. Often that means learning to quiet the anxious voice inside your mind, shifting perspective, and unlearning the behaviors which have kept you stuck for so long. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” strategy. That is why I take the time to get to know you, see issues through your perspective, and create an individualized plan to help you reach your goals.

I believe in hope, love, equality, equity, inclusion, and kindness. I also believe in science, accountability, and the impact that trauma has on our functioning. In my practice, I feel comfortable addressing any differences in gender, race, and ethnicity with my clients and the impact that these might have on the working relationship and overall treatment. Many of my clients come to me because they're starting to realize certain things they've experienced when they were younger, or even recently, are starting to have a negative impact on their lives, their ability be happy, and their ability to form new and healthy relationships. My practice focuses on working with those who are ready to address those experiences.

I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy in a multicultural context. I provide a compassionately insightful and culturally-sensitive space that allows you to attune to your inner wisdom, leading to contentment in personal and professional pursuits. Psychodynamic orientation is based on an insight-oriented approach of becoming aware of unconscious patterns rooted in our past that significantly impact current functioning in relationships, work, and recreation. I incorporate mindfulness meditation or relaxation techniques if the client prefers. My practice is exclusively telehealth-based, and research has shown telehealth to be very useful for treatment. I offer psychotherapy via a video HIPAA-compliant platform that protects your privacy and bars unauthorized access. Telehealth provides convenience for both the provider and client without compromising the quality of treatment. It is exciting to witness the ease of mental health access that telehealth provides. Now, you don't have to limit your therapist search to your local area but can instead extend it all over the state! I hold these qualifications: I have a doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford, and the program is approved by American Psychological Association (APA). I completed an internship in clinical psychology, approved by the APA. I completed a formal Post-Doctoral Fellowship in college counseling. I am licensed as a Psychologist in New York state. We may have all asked ourselves at one time or another..."How did I (or we) get here?" During these times, talking to someone who understands helps. I have helped many college students/young adults with adjusting to college life, academic stressors and relationship difficulties. I am skilled in helping students manage anxiety and depression. I believe that understanding you and the reasons you are seeking counseling as essential to our work together. We will employ practical strategies you can utilize outside of the office. Students will often ask me, "what is my homework?" It will feel empowering to work on your goals both in and outside of therapy.

Life is a journey and you will be hard pressed to find a completely smooth path along the way. The hard truth is that life can be filled with difficulties. However, everyone possesses inner strengths to overcome their barriers. I will assist you in bringing out these strengths and adopt healthy coping mechanisms. I have a background in established therapeutic styles such as solution-focused, goal-oriented, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. Such traditional approaches may work for some but sometimes dismisses the holistic needs of individuals. I am a strong believer in the power of connection, humor, and purpose. To meet the needs and busy schedules of people, I also offer an internet-based platform. Availability for individuals, groups, couples, and families. I respect all forms of therapy, but if you envision beyond counseling that follows the standard constraints then this is the right fit for you. Please visit the website EBCounseling.org
