Therapists for college students near New York University
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over a decade of experience working with adults and young adults using trauma-informed interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapies (DBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) techniques. My therapy style focuses on change as a constant and certain part of life. It emphasizes what is changeable and possible. Clients work on developing their own goals, and using their resources and strengths to move forward in their therapeutic work. Healing comes from an integration of mind, body, and spirit, and my practice encourages healing of the whole self. Learning to live our truths, leaning into authenticity, and embracing our imperfections on our path of healing is the core of our work. Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Neurodiversity, Trauma-related Disorders, LGBTQ+
I'm currently working as a postdoctoral fellow. I earned my doctoral degree in Clinical & School Psychology from Roberts Wesleyan University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Nebraska Mental Health Centers in Lincoln, Nebraska. At this site, I received an extensive generalist training in therapeutic practices and psychological assessments, addressing a wide array of psychopathologies and demographics. I provide therapy services from an integrative perspective, drawing primarily from Person-Centered, Attachment, Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavior (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) therapies. This means our work together will prioritize creating a safe, empathetic space where your unique experiences are deeply understood and respected. We'll explore how early relationships and patterns might be influencing your present struggles and how to build more secure connections. Additionally, you'll learn practical skills to identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors, manage intense emotions and improve relationships, and cultivate mindfulness, acceptance, and a commitment to living in alignment with your values, even in the face of discomfort. My goal is to tailor our approach to your specific needs, empowering you with both insight and effective strategies for lasting change and a more fulfilling life. My significant experience in community mental health uniquely equips me to address anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, behavioral issues, parenting training, severe and persistent mental illness, and trauma across diverse child, adolescent, and adult populations. My background in the school setting further allows me to provide comprehensive wrap-around services for children and families. Last, I have done extensive research on minority stress, the impact it has on mental health in the LGBTQ+ community, and subsequent affirmative evidence-based treatments. My training has also prepared me to provide comprehensive diagnostic and psychoeducational evaluations. This helps clients gain diagnostic clarification and provides a direction for treatment services.
My work in the field of counseling began in 1992 and I have been a clinician in practice for over 25 years. I specialize in helping clients work through trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and supporting them on their journey to improved balance in life. My therapeutic approach is person centered. I work closely with clients to help them connect with their values, gain personal insight, understanding and self-compassion. With a trauma-informed mindset, I strive to create a safe and therapeutic environment. This entails a blend of treatment interventions designed to best match individual needs. I draw inspiration from the work of colleagues like: Brene Brown, Bessel Van der Kolk, Gabor Mate, Alfred Adler, Carl Rogers, and Carl Jung. These individuals are leaders in the field of counseling and therapy. They are the inspiration that has helped build my foundation for an enduring and balanced practice. My counseling background includes work with adults, college students, children and families, couples, Military Personnel, Veterans, and their families, as well as disabled adults. In my current work, I focus on helping individuals rebuild a foundation from which to grow from. Because I am a firm believer in the power of yoga, self-reflection, and meditation; when appropriate, I weave Eastern Philosophies into treatment. For example, the body holds trauma in seven main body parts (pelvis, diaphragm, throat, jaw, hamstrings, shoulders, and neck). With the application of some yoga, meditation, and mindful attention, we can help the body release underlying trapped feelings so that healing can begin.

Each person has a unique experience and healing requires an individualized plan. Healing occurs through a combination of multiple different sources. Therapy can be one tool that can aid in growth that can alleviate suffering. Therapy can be both challenging and rewarding. I believe that a critical component of therapy is a trusting relationship with compassion, feeling heard and seen. Working with someone who you trust to hear your experience and challenge you in positive ways. I am a Yale and VA-trained clinical psychologist , licensed in CT and NY, who has over a decade of experience working with people struggling with addiction. Additionally, I have expertise treating anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, and relationship distress. I approach therapy from a gender-affirming, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lens. What if getting better didn't mean spending years talking about everything that's ever gone wrong? I work with college and grad students to build real, lasting change by providing insight and skills that actually help. With over a decade of clinical work in the US and abroad, I've helped young adults manage anxiety, quiet the perfectionism and imposter syndrome that follow them into every exam and internship, while creating a healthy type of confidence that remains under pressure. My clients describe working with me as supportive, direct, collaborative, and nothing like what they expected therapy to be. We figure out what's driving the pattern. Then we work on changing it. I specialize in: anxiety, burnout and stress, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and people-pleasing. My approach pulls from CBT, ACT, Positive Psychology, and Mindfulness, grounded in a trauma-informed model. You don't have to have it figured out to start. Currently offering Online Therapy throughout Massachusetts, New York, Colorado, Vermont, and Florida. Whether you are in Boston, NYC, or Denver, I am ready when you are.
