I’ve always been a curious person. Some might call it nosy, but for me it’s about wanting to understand what makes each person unique. That curiosity began with my own story, figuring out who I am and where I come from. Growing up in an immigrant household as a biracial person brought its own challenges, and those experiences shaped my connection to this work. Mental health has always felt deeply personal to me. Having been impacted by it both directly and indirectly, I’ve learned to turn adversity into strength and purpose, and to connect with others through empathy and understanding. Think of therapy as a choose-your-own-adventure. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are at. Some sessions might be spent processing the pain of a difficult breakup, while others may focus on something lighter, like venting about a character you can’t stand in a show you’re watching. I value the open-endedness of person-centered therapy and enjoy finding creative and meaningful ways to support clients.

About Me: Hello, I'm Nhi, a dedicated first-generation social work intern in my second year at Columbia University's School of Social Work. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Grinnell College and bring a deeply personal understanding of mental health challenges shaped by my own experiences as an Asian American in foster care. My journey has been profoundly influenced by the intersection of intergenerational trauma, immigration, and systemic inequalities, providing me with a unique perspective on the complexities of healing and resilience. My Approach: I believe that trauma and mental health struggles do not exist in a vacuum—they are often reflections of broader societal issues. Growing up in a family affected by intergenerational trauma, poverty, and systemic discrimination, I understand firsthand the cascading effects these forces can have on a person's mental and emotional well-being, even into adulthood. This insight drives my therapeutic approach, where I aim to provide a compassionate, culturally sensitive space for clients to explore their experiences and find healing. I bring extensive experience working with diverse populations and complex trauma. During my time as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, I supported individuals and families from all walks of life, many of whom were dealing with overlapping traumas, including domestic violence, mental health struggles, homelessness, childhood trauma, and identity-based discrimination. This experience reinforced my belief that trauma and mental health challenges are often intertwined with larger societal issues. Mental health challenges can significantly impact daily functioning, even long after the precipitating events have occurred. In some cases, there may be no clear cause, yet the impact is still profound. Regardless of the situation, everyone deserves support in their healing journey. In my practice, I adopt a flexible, client-centered approach, tailoring my methods to meet each individual's unique needs and strengths. I utilize a range of therapeutic techniques, including trauma-informed therapy, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I believe every person has the inherent capacity to navigate their challenges, and my role is to support, empower, and provide tools for their journey toward healing. What to Expect: In our work together, you can expect a supportive, non-judgmental environment where your experiences are honored, and your voice is central to the healing process. I am committed to understanding your story in its full context, recognizing the multiple layers of identity and experience that shape who you are. Whether you're dealing with personal trauma, managing day-to-day stressors, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I'm here to walk alongside you, providing the guidance and support you need. I am a pre-licensed therapist intern at Sol Health working under the supervision of Susan Chung, LCSW, MPH. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists in-training accruing clinical hours. My ideal client is someone navigating a significant life transition—whether it’s entering a new phase of life, adjusting to a career shift, or healing after the end of a relationship, or starting a new one. They may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected from themselves and others. They often appear high-functioning on the outside but internally struggle with self-doubt, perfectionism, or emotional exhaustion. Their needs often include learning how to manage stress, set healthy boundaries, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen relationships. I have 13 years of experience and am licensed in three states. My approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, presence, and collaboration. I draw primarily from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based practices to help clients build psychological flexibility, develop deeper self-awareness, and move toward a more values-driven life. I believe that healing begins in the context of a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. Therapy is a shared process, and I deeply respect the courage it takes to show up and be vulnerable. My role is to walk alongside you, offering guidance and insight.

We all experience some distress or discomfort that can prevent us from feeling content and enjoying all that life has to offer. We're often stuck in patterned behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and relationships that only increases our distress and prevents us from being able to move forward. I work collaboratively with people to better understand the patterns of behaviors, thoughts, or feelings that contribute to our distress and develop concrete skills to feel content and enjoy life. I provide person-centered and strength-based therapy tailored to the needs of the individual. I specialize in CBT, ACT, interpersonal therapy, trauma informed methods, and motivational interviewing. I work well with people experiencing anxiety or depression, struggling with transitions in life, or have experienced trauma. I create a nurturing and supportive environment for you to express yourself to be able to create a balanced and fulfilling life. I believe that everyone has the capacity to change. Saturday appointments available.

I believe psychotherapy is a project between two people where sources of emotional pain and anguish are discovered and revisited, where what has been denied, unimagined, forgotten, or come to be unspeakable can become imagined, felt and spoken. The process generates an understanding of ourselves that is vastly more dynamic than what our relationships, politics and culture allow, leading to the easing of suffering and the creation of new possibilities. The therapy I provide is open, an invitation. There is a freedom to it that takes courage and tolerance. It can involve a deconstructive or constructive momentum where you may not necessarily be told what to say or how to feel. It is an invitation to notice what comes to mind and what does not. What can emerge in a therapy is dynamic. It can surprise, frustrate, thrill and provoke. These experiences are worked through together. As you bring yourself as fully as possible to what confuses or afflicts, I will help guide you with my understanding of the mind toward a life of growth and healing.

My practice offers psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy to help patients move beyond roadblocks toward personal growth. We see patients across the lifespan and have been privileged to help people work through some of the most personal struggles in their lives. Together, we can address problematic behaviors (e.g., insomnia, anger, procrastination), troubling emotions (e.g., depression, anxiety, anger, fear), maladaptive thought patterns (e.g., rumination, worry, self-criticism), and relationship issues (e.g., work, family, dating). Taking the first step toward approaching your challenges can be scary. Finding a therapist you trust and with whom you feel comfortable is one of the most important factors in helping you to move forward. My practice also offers comprehensive psychological assessment services for children, adolescents, and adults. We use evidence-based assessment tools and methods grounded in research to conduct psychodiagnostic, psychoeducational, and fitness for duty/disability evaluations. The results of these evaluations can be used to aid in diagnosis and treatment, facilitate the provision of special education services, support applications for accommodations at school or work, or provide evidence of fitness for employment. We offer specialized consultation services, as well. Please check out our website to learn more.
