Therapists for college students near New York University
You’re tired of questioning yourself and feeling “not enough.” Painful experiences in your past colored your inner world gray... Lingering wounds like childhood trauma, narcissistic partners, and betrayal trauma impact how you see yourself and interact with others. You want to break free from being a perfectionist, people-pleaser, or high achiever compensating for internalized self-blame, shame, or inadequacy. Using a blend of brainspotting & psychoanalysis, we can tap into the connection between your body, brain, and psyche to work through stuck points in your inner world, as well as your social, cultural, and familial landscapes. Brainspotting is an alternative to talk therapy that could bypass the limitations of language and access the brain's subcortical regions involved in emotional processing, memory formation, and instinctive reactions. By focusing on points in the visual field, or "brainspots," we can tap into unresolved trauma and emotions stored in the subcortical brain. My goal is to help you process old pain, gain insight into its origins and how it shaped you, reframe limiting narratives from childhood, and integrate fragmented pieces of you into a cohesive sense of self. With a background in treating eating disorders, substance abuse, and trauma, Dr. Chipps set out to build a group practice developed by and for the people of Williamsburg. Our therapists practice evidence based treatment modalities. This means you receive care that is based on proven technique and philosophy. We take an active approach in continuously improving our technique and skills as therapists so that we can provide the highest quality, most effective treatment for you. Because we know that each person carries a unique history and specific challenges, we draw from a number of psychological methods to tailor treatment to your needs.
I believe that each of our stories are equally sacred as they are unique and see therapy as an opportunity to cultivate curiosity for ourselves, let go of self-judgement, and create meaningful change. I utilize an embodied approach rooted in Gestalt Therapy and don't shy away from bringing humor, play and creativity to the therapeutic process. Though my experience ranges across many areas, I gravitate towards helping clients work through Inner Child Healing, codependency, perfectionism, relational trauma, multicultural identity and relationship issues. I also work with couples seeking to deepen intimacy, trust and communication.
Hello! I’m Sakena, and I’m a Master’s student in the Social Work Program at Binghamton University. I aim to create a safe space for clients to comfortably navigate through any difficulties. I understand everyone is different, and with that, I make sure my approaches are in each client’s best interest. When working with clients, I use approaches such as active listening, skill building, and mindfulness to help clients through the difficult experiences they’re facing. These skills come from a holistic approach that is person-centered and follows CBT and SFBT. My goal as your therapist is to help you reach your goals. I believe this journey is a collaborative process, and you can progress through it at your own pace. I hope to help clients explore how past experiences have shaped their current emotions and way of life. So together, we can highlight your strengths and aim for clarity and balance. Sakena Kearse is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapist-in-training accruing clinical hours.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with a background in mental health, advocacy, and education. Through these experiences, and my own healing journey, I have come to understand the importance of safety, trust, and authenticity as a therapist. I prioritize creating a safe and affirming environment—one that values and elevates you and your lived experiences. I work with individuals struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions. I have a particular expertise working with survivors of complex trauma, including interpersonal violence, sexual assault, and attachment wounding.
Hi! I am Dr. Monica Johnson. If you’re reading this, it means you are taking your mental and emotional health seriously and researching someone who will be a good fit for your journey. This is exciting! Let me tell you more about me to help you with your decision making process. I am a Licensed Psychologist in NYC, but some people think of me as a problem solving pro, empowerment guru, and self-compassion guide! I partner with my patients to find pathways to a better life. I work best with people who are tired of being stuck and ready to make changes. I can’t change you. Only you can do that, but I’m super excited to be your side kick on the journey and help you highlight roads to success. One of the most important things to know about me is that I am NOT a smile and nod type of therapist. I get down in the trenches with you. I’m down to earth and real with you through this process which means I will call you out on your BS and help you figure out what to do with it. We will work hard and laugh a lot. For the record, there is nothing off limits or shameful in therapy. I’ve seen it all and heard it all. If you need to talk about sex, money, medical issues, or “that one time in Amsterdam,” don’t hesitate! I work with people of all backgrounds (race, gender, sexuality, religion, alternative relationships) and you should expect that I will affirm your identity while helping you to develop a fuller self concept. My job is to help you tap into strengths you already possess (we all have them even if we can’t see them yet) and create new ones! If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, feel constantly overwhelmed by your emotions, past traumas, poor relationships, low self esteem, or just deciding what the next step is in your career/life, I can help.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in New York City, providing therapy in both English and Spanish. I work one-on-one with folks navigating trauma, relationship challenges, maternal mental health, life transitions, and identity exploration. My approach focuses on slowing down to recognize the patterns in our lives—those that serve us and those that no longer do—so we can begin to move toward creating the life we want. I have experience supporting individuals impacted by domestic violence, gender-based violence, sexual abuse, immigration stressors, and LGBTQ+ issues, including gender identity. I take a collaborative, holistic approach to therapy, offering a safe, supportive space to slow down, reflect, and explore who you are and who you want to become. I believe our emotions offer meaningful insight. By understanding our patterns, we create space for healing, growth, and a more connected, authentic life. Life can be unpredictable and overwhelming, and you don’t have to navigate it alone. In therapy, we’ll explore ways to cope with challenges, reconnect with moments of joy, and find steadiness and strength in an ever-changing world. Together, we can safely explore how to thrive in a changing world.
Welcome to my practice! My name is Nick and I am a licensed mental health counselor, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor, and board certified telemental health provider. All services are offered online only. Most of our suffering derives from within. Imagine if you talked to a loved one the way you talk to yourself, or if someone spoke to you the way you speak to yourself. It would be unacceptable and it would not be tolerated. Yet we surrender to these thoughts, repeating the same hurtful, debilitating monologue in the echo chamber of our mind. Herein lies the certainty that derives from being on your own, stuck in a position you never reasoned yourself into in the first place. As you develop an awareness of these thoughts that have so greatly affected your life, you’ll learn how to develop a new, more rational narrative based on the values and beliefs that you yourself will create. As your therapist, my job is to navigate this process as you learn to actively change your thoughts, which change your feelings and impact your actions. I am a firm believer in achieving functionality. We want life to work for us, and not against us. Being a flawed, living, breathing human being, I too struggle with this everyday, and I bring that intense desire to make things work in the therapeutic relationship. We work together to solve the ambivalence. It is understandable that when it comes to our motivation to change, we have our ups & downs. I know what it feels like to be stuck. It’s painful, and when you’re in it, you think it will never end. The good news is that it does, and the process of seeing that end can be so much better having someone that understands you by your side, every step of the way. So are you ready to get started?
