Therapists for college students near New York University
Learning how to navigate life as a young adult is hard! You are trying to balance the demands of work or school, family, and friends, all while figuring out who you are and who you want to be. As a driven and successful individual, you may put a lot of pressure on yourself and feel constrained by your own expectations. This can lead to constant self-doubt and feeling like you're always reaching for an unattainable (or unrealistic) goal. You may be overextending yourself to others, and not focusing on yourself. Perhaps you have negative thought patterns or behaviors that are causing discomfort or you don't always understand your reactions. Virtual therapy can help. Let's work together to discover the barriers that are keeping you from finding balance in your life - taking care of yourself and setting boundaries is not selfish!
I’m a licensed psychologist based in New York City, working with young adults, adults, and couples who want to feel more grounded and connected in their lives. People often come to me for help with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, substance use, or the effects of past trauma. Others are simply looking for a better understanding of themselves and the patterns that keep showing up. As a gay therapist, I bring both personal and professional experience to my work with the LGBTQ+ community. I offer a space that’s affirming, open, and free of judgment—where you can be fully yourself. We’ll go at your pace, using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches that fit you as a person. My goal is to make therapy feel safe, collaborative, and genuinely helpful—so you can move toward greater clarity, confidence, and self-understanding.
I am looking for people who are looking for change (some change takes 2). I have some insight into the college experience and am able to connect with students pursuing diverse interests: I have graduate degrees in literature, business administration, and social work. My eclectic professional and cultural background helps me build rapport and join with people from all walks of life, young and old. My bilingual upbringing and life experience allows me to practice psychotherapy in Russian with native Russian speakers.
You’ve been holding it together for a long time, maybe for everyone else, maybe just to keep life moving. On the surface, things look fine, but inside you might feel tired, anxious, disconnected, or unsure of what’s next. You’ve tried to manage it on your own, but the same patterns keep showing up in relationships, work, or how you talk to yourself. I work with adults ready for meaningful change, who are navigating stress, burnout, relationship challenges, or life transitions. Together, we’ll uncover what’s holding you back and build tools to help you feel grounded, confident, and connected. My approach is active, collaborative, and practical. I bring warmth, humor, and curiosity to the work while helping you explore what’s underneath the surface and create the shifts you want. I draw from evidence-based methods including CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic therapy but I’ll always tailor our sessions to what works best for you. I offer virtual therapy for adults across New York State. Whether you’re struggling with stress, communication, self-esteem, or finding balance in your life, therapy can be a space to slow down, gain clarity, and reconnect with yourself. If you’re ready to stop carrying everything on your own, call or email me for a free 15-minute consultation.

Many of Kelly's clients experience feelings of sadness and low mood, sleep difficulties, low energy, trouble with concentration; as well as, feelings of anxiousness and worry, difficulty relaxing, and feelings of restlessness. She also provides support to those experiencing difficulty coping with life transitions, loss, relationship issues/conflict, work stress, and trauma. During the intake, Kelly will utilize that visit to gather information to understand the client's history and set goals together. Clients often leave sessions feeling relieved, understood, and overtime notice a reduction in symptoms. Whether it's your first time pursuing therapy or you're familiar with the process, it's important to choose someone who is a good fit and that meets your needs. Everyone deserves to have a space where they can be their authentic selves, express their feelings, receive unbiased feedback, and where they feel supported. I understand personally how challenging it can be dealing with stress, depression, anxiety and other life issues, which helps me relate with clients on a deeper level. Allay Therapy is a private psychotherapy practice in New York City specializing in providing LGBTQ+ affirming, trauma informed and non-judgment care
College can be a meaningful and exciting chapter, but it can also bring intense pressure, uncertainty, identity questions, family stress, relationship challenges, burnout, anxiety, and executive functioning struggles. My practice offers a warm, collaborative space where students can slow down, feel understood, and develop practical tools for navigating both emotional distress and daily life demands. At Karuna Psychotherapy & Consulting , therapy is trauma-responsive, compassion-focused, and neuroscience-informed, with an emphasis on mind–body integration, relational attunement, and authentic human connection. At Karuna, we support deep healing, wholeness, and personal growth through compassionate, relational, mind–body psychology. I work from a non-shaming, culturally aware , LGBTQ+ affirming, and neurodiversity-affirming perspective. Together, we may explore patterns of stress, self-criticism, avoidance, perfectionism, overwhelm, attachment wounds, or disconnection from the body. My approach integrates evidence-informed psychotherapy, mindfulness, self-compassion, nervous system regulation, parts work, and insight-oriented reflection. My goal is to help students feel safer within themselves, better able to understand their emotions, and more empowered to move toward relationships, values, and choices that support their well-being.
If you’re looking for a therapist who shows up like a regular person, and not a blank slate, look no further. In this room, you won’t get a lot of blank “I see” or “Ahh.” Instead, you’ll have a therapist who is warm, empathetic, and (most importantly) FUNNY. I aim to make the therapy room a space where you can show up exactly as you are. That is, authentically you, whatever that looks like on any given day. We can make space to laugh, to cry, to feel what it is you need to feel in order to help you grow into the you that you want to be. I want this relationship to feel collaborative and within your boundaries. If something we’re doing isn’t working for you, tell me and let’s work together to find something that works for you!
Many of my clients are young adults, college students, graduate students, and working professionals who appear successful on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic stress, burnout, low motivation, self-doubt, or difficulty navigating life transitions. Together, we identify the patterns keeping them stuck, build practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and goal-oriented, helping clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and confidence in themselves and their future. I specialize in anxiety, depression, stress management, motivation, and self-esteem. Drawing from DBT, mindfulness-based practices, and Adlerian therapy, I help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing practical tools for everyday life. My goal as a therapist is to create a space where you can exhale, a place where you don’t have to hold everything together. Healing begins with compassion and connection, and real change happens when we feel understood without judgment. I don’t see my clients as diagnoses or problems to be fixed, but as whole people with complex stories.
You don't have to figure it all out on your own! Students I work with are empathic and intelligent and are feeling pain about their personal lives and the world at large. They have difficulty asking for help as they are often the person others turn to for assistance. Distress can show up as failing classes, procrastination, insomnia, sadness, lack of focus, irritability, anxiety and feelings of hopelessness about the future. In our work together, we will identify sources of distress, resolve conflicts that are holding you stuck, and learn, practice and integrate coping strategies. We will tap into inner resources--including intuition, humor, beauty and resilience--to access healing and joy. Our work will enable you to become more grounded, self-aware, confident, and self-directed. I studied English and Environmental Studies at SUNY Albany and Williams College. I received my Masters in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University and my Masters in Social Work from New York University. My professional experience includes over 15 years working in academia, including serving as the director of a university women's and gender resource center, adjunct professor and academic advisor, in addition to my work as a psychotherapist. I am a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America and am a climate-aware and trauma-informed therapist. Many of my current clients are dealing with trauma and social anxiety. They often feel isolated and struggle with initiating and building healthy connections and friendships with others. Therapy can help you uncover choices and social skills you may not even be able to imagine now. My studies in creative arts therapies, mythology, Tarot, dreams and archetypes help you see your life stories with fresh perspective and flexibility. Students who work best with me approach therapy as partnering with a warm, compassionate, knowledgeable guide who can help them access intuitive, academic, physical and practical resources. We weave together a unique net of strategies that you can tap into as needed for coping with obstacles and stressors in your life.
My goal is to build a strong alliance with you in a safe and supportive environment, ensuring meaningful positive therapeutic outcomes. Together, we will identify and address unhelpful thought and behavior patterns, as well as explore challenges and hindrances, to help you function at your full potential. I work closely with you to tailor treatment to your unique needs, using a collaborative approach. I draw from various therapeutic modalities, with a primary focus on CBT. I take an active, culturally sensitive approach in practice, equipping you with skills and practical tools to help you maintain the benefits of therapy beyond our sessions. I have widespread experience working with a diverse population and a variety of disorders including depression, anxiety disorders, relationship and adjustment issues, PTSD, ADHD and OCD. Taking the step to seek therapy can feel daunting, but we will work together to help you feel better. I offer virtual sessions and invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation. I look forward to working with you! I’m licensed in both NY and WA.
I believe who you are matters. You’re a deep feeler, a critical thinker, & someone who’s carried a lot for a long time. Perhaps you are the “black sheep”, someone who has felt unseen, unheard, or unworthy for most of your life. You’ve learned how to keep going, but lately, you’re exhausted. You’re realizing that surviving isn’t enough anymore. You might be navigating anxiety, burnout, dissociation, grief, identity transitions, or complex trauma. You may feel stuck in cycles of self-abandonment, masking, or perfectionism. You want to feel safe in your body, connected to your truth, & be free to live more fully - not just function. You’re looking for a therapist who is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, and deeply attuned to the realities of navigating systems that weren’t built for you. You want support that’s holistic, anti-oppressive, and rooted in nervous system regulation, attachment work, and deep respect for your autonomy. I work from a trauma-informed, shame-sensitive, and strengths-based lens. I draw on your values, your lived experiences, and your inner resilience to co-create a path toward healing. I help clients break out of survival mode, heal from internalized shame and systemic harm, and reconnect with a sense of safety, authenticity, and agency.
I’m a generalist clinician who helps clients explore and shift patterns that no longer serve them. Hello, My name is Lauren Pezzo and I am the owner of Dedicated Peace. I am a solo practitioner seeing clients remotely. I treat a variety of ages from 13 - 55+ and I am most familiar with Mood Disorders (Depression, Anxiety, Bi-Polar, Panic, etc). I have worked with individuals with a history of trauma be it recent or in the past. I do well with relationship issues, couples sessions and handling familial conflict. I am very big on clients learning to change their narrative. Meaning being open to changing the various stories we tend to tell and sell ourselves over the years. I want to help people think in the grey area of life and be open to challenging narrow thinking we may have become accustomed to.
I am an Asian American therapist with over 10 years of experience working with undergraduate and graduate students, traditional and non-traditional. My aim as a therapist is to offer my clients a space where they can take the time from their otherwise hectic schedules to pause and be curious about their feelings, behaviors, and reactions. Often we can feel like we are moving from one task to another and before long, we lose touch with why we started on the path we are on in the first place. In therapy, one can reconnect with the parts of themselves needed to feel balanced and thrive. I also strongly believe that the relationship between therapist and client is key for one to be able to explore, reflect, and ultimately heal. As such, I prioritize in creating a safe, supportive space where we may work together to better understand your unique experiences.
Do you find yourself stuck in patterns of procrastination and perfectionism, or at the mercy to your own self critic? Does it feel like you get caught up in moving away from negative experiences instead of moving towards meaningful ones? I am committed to helping my clients face the obstacles that get in the way of leading rich, meaningful lives. As a clinical psychologist, I specialize in treating anxiety-related issues including generalized anxiety, OCD, panic, social anxiety, and phobias. I also help my patients develop effective tools to manage stress, procrastination, perfectionism, problematic eating. I use evidence-based approaches, thoughtfully employed to match your needs, strengths, and temperament. I employ a warm, empathetic, and collaborative approach, and together we’ll work to approach your struggles with curiosity and empowerment. Through the practice of new habits and behaviors, you can bring meaningful change out of the therapy room and into your life. As such, we will work to set meaningful treatment goals, and then collaboratively develop ways to purposefully move towards these goals. Please reach out with any questions or to set up a time to talk. I look forward to connecting.
