Hi there, I'm Jennie. I'm an Asian-American psychotherapist committed to partnering with you on this journey. My work focuses on promoting deeper wellness and considers the entire human experience: from what appears in the here and now to a deep dive into your life. I have over thirteen years of experience working with women across the life span at various community based agencies and hospitals in New York City and Philadelphia. The stories we believe about ourselves are essential, and yet, they are stories we are often unaware of. You may have decided to seek treatment because you (or someone in your life) noticed something about you or how you live in the world that has been difficult, like feeling disappointed in yourself or others, and this may have impacted things like your schoolwork or your relationships. Whatever the difficulties are, these are themes in your story -- we would work together to make sense of them, and see what we can do about them. The possibilities may include things like psychotherapy (talk therapy) or medications, both of which are treatment options I offer in my psychiatry practice. Because I think it is essential to treat you as a whole person, I am only accepting new patients who are interested in psychotherapy (typically at least weekly), either with me in my practice, or with a therapist with whom I have a working relationship. As a physician (medical doctor) specialized in psychiatry, I draw on years of dedicated training for your treatment; qualifying as a psychiatrist entails, after completion of a bachelor's degree, eight years of full-time medical education, including six years of supervised, direct patient care in a variety of treatment settings. The potential for happiness, peace and belonging is within each of us. During times of natural and unexpected life transitions and challenges, it may seem out of reach. Using the tenets of positive psychology, in conjunction with proven mental health counseling approaches, we will work together to cultivate these things in your life and construct the present and future that you envision. Intentionally building a flourishing life – one that fits with your unique strengths and values– will be an important goal of our work together, no matter your age, life circumstances or personal and family history. Areas in which I have experience are developing strategies that promote a more positive mood and lessened anxiety and worry, improving family and peer relationships, navigating life transitions, and exploring the role of spirituality, faith and religious practices in your life. My clinical approach is integrative, primarily drawing on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and positive psychology, but always focused on the unique needs of the whole individual, mind, body, and spirit. With a Master’s degree in Pastoral Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I am qualified to integrate clinical counseling with spirituality in a way that respects all faiths and religious practices, wherever you are in your journey of faith, or even if you have no professed beliefs. I am also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where I obtained a Master of Applied Positive Psychology. I also hold a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology, which provides me valuable understanding of the role of medications in promoting mental health and achieving positive well-being. Married for 37 years and the mother of two young adults, I approach counseling with an authentic, real-life perspective.

Do you feel unsatisfied with the path you’re on? I specialize in work with college students and twenty-somethings who are navigating new life stages and want to learn more about themselves. Maybe you’re adjusting to starting/leaving college, or a new job. Or you’re looking to set boundaries as you gain independence from your family. I’m here to help you bridge the gap between your life now and what you want your life to look like, while also giving new meaning to the experiences that led you to where you are. I not only bring educational & professional experience to my practice, but also empathy & realness that comes from confronting my own personal challenges. Anxiety, self-doubt, low-self esteem, perfectionism, job dissatisfaction & relationship issues are common struggles of a quarterlifer as you navigate transitions in your 20s. Together we can separate those problems from who you are as a person, learn about the role they play in your life, develop ways to cope, & move forward towards your ideal life. I also work with those pursuing a career as a therapist. Whether you're a psychology or social work student considering grad school, you're a grad school student adjusting to your internship, or you're wondering if a career as a therapist is for you - I have years of experience helping students navigate the field and find a path that feels right for them.
You’re doing a lot for everyone, and at the same time you’re trying to hold on to who you are. Maybe you’re figuring out adulthood, balancing school or work, managing relationships, or trying to feel like “yourself” while also being there for other people. Big changes — starting college, career shifts, breakups, becoming a parent, identity changes — can feel overwhelming, lonely, or like a loss. You don’t have to sort it out alone. This is a space to say what’s really going on, without having to minimize it or make it sound okay. I'm real, warm & nonjudgmental. I work with people who are stressed, burnt out, anxious, hurting or just trying to stay afloat. I have deep experience supporting college students, young adults, people exploring identity & people living with self-harm or suicidal thoughts. We’ll slow things down, make sense of what’s happening & figure out what actually works. Therapy doesn’t have to be formal or scary. It can just be you and me, talking honestly about what you’re carrying and what you want next. If you’re ready to feel more grounded and supported, reach out. I’m currently accepting new clients and offer flexible scheduling. Send a message or request a session to get started.
