Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
Understanding that our experiences are shaped by the environments we live in—our communities, culture, and relationships—I take a trauma-informed and relational approach to therapy. My work is grounded in the belief that healing begins when we feel seen, safe, and connected. I aim to create a space where you can explore your emotions, express yourself freely, and begin to reconnect with your body and sense of self. As an art therapist, I believe creativity can be a powerful pathway to understanding and transformation. In our sessions, we might use artmaking, mindfulness, or gentle somatic practices to help you express what words can’t always capture. These creative tools can support regulation, insight, and a deeper connection to your inner world. My practice integrates mindfulness, person-centered, and feminist frameworks, and I work collaboratively with each client to find what feels most supportive. I specialize in working with anxiety, life transitions, women’s issues, and LGBTQ+ concerns, and I strive to provide an affirming space where all identities and experiences are honored. I see therapy as a collaborative and compassionate process—one where we explore not just what feels painful, but also what brings meaning, resilience, and joy. My goal is to help you cultivate a sense of internal safety and confidence as you move toward a more grounded, authentic version of yourself. Outside of my work as a therapist, I find joy in thrifting and antiquing, or getting lost in a good fantasy novel alongside my two cats, Cricket and Jerry. If my approach resonates with you, I invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation. I’d be honored to connect and support you on your healing journey.

Do emotions take over and exhaust you? Have people marveled at how resilient you are or mentioned your sensitivity as a liability? Maybe you sometimes wonder if you’re the only one who is seeing the hurt and pain all around. It’s likely you have figured out how to adapt to what the world wants you to be. You present the part of yourself that is widely accepted by your community and our social systems, but what about the rest of YOU? We always hear that college is the best days of our lives, but it is also a time a self discovery. That discovery process can be painful, and I can help. I guide young adults to connect to their inherent worth, power, and self-compassion. I work collaboratively with clients and draw from an expansive toolbox including body-oriented practices, talk therapy, and expressive arts. I am well suited to work with clients who are interested in mindfulness meditation and other body-based exercises to be the center of their therapeutic experience. My scope of practice includes anxiety, grief, burn-out, persistent depression, relational stressors, survivors of sexual trauma, and those navigating life as an artist. I align with clients whose identities and values defy society's conventional norms. My practice is trauma-informed, and I am dedicated to an anti-oppression, anti-racist, body positive, LGBTQIA+ affirming and equitable lens.
Do you feel like your unwanted thoughts are taking over your life? Are you a struggling and frustrated individual who feels like giving up? Have you lost all hope in your life? Are you struggling in college? At work? Does it feel like you are falling apart? Do you feel anxious and weary? Are your unwanted childhood memories interrupting your productivity? Meet with Heloise Ridley, EdD, MBA, MA, LPC, NCC: I support adults struggling to connect with others, establish healthy boundaries, or communicate within their current relationships due to early childhood trauma. I utilize a trauma-informed, culturally attuned lens to support you as a client with unconditional regard and occasional humor. Based upon your needs and preferences as a client, my clinical orientation can include a blend of AEDP, family systems, trauma-healing, strengths-based, and narrative therapy. I strive to provide a “no judgement zone” for you as clients to pursue your healing. I believe I serve as a cheerleader in your journey towards new hope and resilience.

The stories we believe about ourselves are essential, and yet, they are stories we are often unaware of. You may have decided to seek treatment because you (or someone in your life) noticed something about you or how you live in the world that has been difficult, like feeling disappointed in yourself or others, and this may have impacted things like your schoolwork or your relationships. Whatever the difficulties are, these are themes in your story -- we would work together to make sense of them, and see what we can do about them. The possibilities may include things like psychotherapy (talk therapy) or medications, both of which are treatment options I offer in my psychiatry practice. Because I think it is essential to treat you as a whole person, I am only accepting new patients who are interested in psychotherapy (typically at least weekly), either with me in my practice, or with a therapist with whom I have a working relationship. As a physician (medical doctor) specialized in psychiatry, I draw on years of dedicated training for your treatment; qualifying as a psychiatrist entails, after completion of a bachelor's degree, eight years of full-time medical education, including six years of supervised, direct patient care in a variety of treatment settings. I am a licensed counselor, board-certified art therapist, and trauma-informed yoga practitioner who blends evidence-based treatments into a creative and personalized approach. I specialize as a HAES (Health At Every Size) clinician who utilizes mind-body approaches such as art therapy, somatic therapy, and yoga in conjunction with talk therapy to treat bio-psycho-social disorders such as eating disorders and disordered eating. My clients are looking to make lasting and impactful changes in their lives to gain insight into their mental health and improve their own well-being. I believe humor and creativity are integral to building a therapeutic relationship. I specialize in art therapy where individuals may work through their issues by gaining insight and expressing themselves through metaphor. Clients will gain greater insight into their mind-body connection, and how they can utilize their strengths to minimize feelings of shame and increase overall life satisfaction. I can assist in improving one's relationship with food, movement, perfectionist tendencies, and themselves. My clients work towards gaining insight into their mental health and its mind-body connection by identifying triggers, warning signs, and impacts of distress. My clients build coping and calming skills to manage symptoms, improving executive functioning, boundaries, and relationships with others and themselves.
I specialize in the assessment of neurological, developmental and learning challenges. As a neuropsychologist and certified school psychologist, most of my time is spent on neuropsychological evaluations for educational purposes, helping students with developmental delays, learning disabilities, ADHD and brain injuries, including concussions. Over the years, my services have grown with my patients to include services for adults with these same challenges as well. I am on staff at Doylestown Hospital and, as a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS), I serve as the neuropsychological consultant to the Bucks County IU’s BrainSTEPS Program, where we work to help students with concussions and severe brain injuries re-enter school successfully.
Being a student is a tough time of transition. There are alot of feelings that are swirling around, along with having to "stay on top of all of your academics and/or sports". For many students, it is the first time living without parents/guardians. You have to deal with faculty, and manage expectations from others as well as yourself. College life can be fun, but at the same time very stressful! Sometimes the stress causes other problems to pop up that you have not had to deal with before, or perhaps you did, but on a manageable level. Counseling can be an opportunity to talk through alot of these frustrations, and challenges. It can be a time to also find out about other resources in the world that can be helpful. Either way, it is YOUR time to figure out what would be helpful, and to get it! Reach out to Rays of Hope, we are eager to assist you during this time! PLEASE NOTE: I ALSO have office hours in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. which is right outside of Phila. near City Line Avenue.

You're not going crazy! The stress of our early 20's and college years is woefully underestimated. It is often the time when we will experience our first serious bout of depression, or paralyzing anxiety. You may have managed to keep some of this at bay through high school, but now you feel like you've hit a wall - just when you were "supposed to be" independent. I specialize in empowering young women to navigate this period of transition with clarity, insight, and choice. It is often said that crisis creates opportunity. Now is your opportunity. Let's talk!

I have worked in Community Mental Health for over three years where meeting with clients in some of their darkest times has influenced me to take specified approaches to therapy. I create a relaxed atmosphere with an informal, friendly communication style, allowing you to express yourself freely. I work alongside you, guiding and supporting your journey with an approach tailored to your needs, and your feedback is invaluable for productive sessions.
Hi! My name is Josh Foster, I have over 20 years experience in working with college students, helping them through many of the most difficult emotional barriers and roadblocks that we face. I love working with college students! A lot of the work that I do with people centers around trauma that they have experienced. As someone who has been diagnosed with PTSD as a result of trauma suffered by churches and religious people and systems, I have great empathy and understanding for people dealing with trauma. Here's some of how I approach the work I do with people: I’ll get to know you through asking questions. No one story can encapsulate all of who you are, so I’ll listen and show curiosity about you and your life. I will speak hope to you. I believe that hope is essential to keep moving forward as a human being. I also understand how hard it can be to hold onto. We’ll look for repeated themes, ideas, and connections in your stories so that we can find the problem(s) and discover the tactics and strategies that the problems are using to stay in power. We will work to separate you from the problem(s). I honestly believe that you are not the problem but that whatever problem you are struggling with (anxiety, depression, anger) is the problem. We will discover who you aspire to be and develop tools and strategies that can help you to live for longer stretches of time as the best version of yourself. We’ll work to develop tools that you can utilize in between our sessions, and truths for you to hold on to, so that you can have more hope. I’ll help you learn to pay attention to the ways that your body is trying to communicate to you. I find that the people who make the most progress usually do some reflection between sessions.
