Therapists for college students near Indianapolis, IN
Everyone deserves a safe place to explore their thoughts and feelings. I believe clients are the experts in themselves and I provide a safe space to explore thoughts and feelings without judgment. One request I may ask of clients when we work together is that labels like “right” or “wrong” are strongly discouraged in sessions. Letting go of those labels in session is an important part of creating that safe space. The most common struggles of the people I work with include Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, struggles with assertiveness, gray-area substance use, and anger outbursts. The other mindfulness practices can help with managing anxiety, impulsivity, and intrusive thoughts. As your recovery evolves in stages, your treatment will too. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have been practicing since 2018. My specialties include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and narrative therapy, as well as other mindfulness practices.
My first priority is that you feel SAFE in this space. We won't dive into the deep end on day one. Instead, we’ll go at your pace, focusing on building a space where you feel safe enough to exhale first. My goal isn’t to 'fix' you (because I don't believe that you are broken), but to partner with you in figuring out what’s getting in the way of the life you want. I specialize in working with people who are skeptical of the therapy process, nervous about opening up, or people who haven't had the best experiences in the past with treatment and maybe think therapy isn't for them. Additionally, most of my clients come to me with issues related to trauma, grief, anxiety, depression and addiction. Kix is a therapy dog who joins me at work every day too and would be happy to join you in session! But don't worry - he can also take a nap during your session if you prefer.

I received my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2011. I have trained and practiced in a variety of clinical settings including private practice, university counseling centers, inpatient settings, residential/intensive outpatient treatment settings, and community mental health. I serve as President for the Indiana Society for Psychoanalytic Thought (ISPT), local Division 39 (Psychoanalysis) of APA. I also serve as Practice Committee Chair and Board Member for the Indiana Psychological Association's (IPA) Practice Committee. I teach in Christian Theological Seminary's M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
I see individuals working through transitional issues (university, relational, stage of life), common mental health issues (anxiety, depression, ADHD), and trauma (adverse childhood events, sexual/psychological/physical abuse, etc). Individuals I work with often are seeking therapy to feel more like themselves, relieve symptoms of mental health, and enjoy their day-to-day lives more. I find we are often a good fit when looking at therapy as an opportunity to connect, process, & grow. Welcome. I’m K. Hilary Curtis-Long, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over eight years of experience in trauma informed and systems-oriented care. My work is grounded in the belief that distress is not a personal failing, but a meaningful response to lived experience—often shaped by relational wounds, cultural narratives, and environments that ask too much of the nervous system. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, listen carefully, and make sense of what your symptoms have been trying to communicate. My clinical background includes training in attachment theory, trauma therapy, Jungian and narrative approaches, feminist theory, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), with a strong emphasis on somatic and mindfulness-based practices. I work with individuals navigating religious trauma, sexuality and identity, attachment wounds, shame, relational harm, and the lingering impacts of early experiences. Many clients come to therapy feeling exhausted by urgency, responsibility, or the pressure to remain functional in systems that feel misaligned with their values. In our work together, we attend to the interconnection between mind, body, and story—exploring how inherited beliefs, early relationships, and social systems have shaped your sense of self, worth, and belonging. Rather than rushing toward solutions, therapy becomes a place to metabolize grief, loosen shame, and reclaim creativity, agency, and meaning at a pace that feels sustainable. Symptoms are approached with curiosity and respect, allowing self- compassion to replace self-blame over time.
